School Preprations

This year I'll have a 2nd grader, a 1st grader, a kindergartner, and Preschooler...
That's 4 school wardrobes to get done...so I've set to work already!
Preparing both clothes and supplies, while making sure IEPs are in place is more then I ever thought I'd be doing! But, hey, do what you need to do! (The IEPs are for all except Miss S)
First up around here was pants for M - 9 pairs made from a pattern I drafted myself to meet her Sensory needs...
then there's the fact that M owns a load of dance related tshirts...but nothing with her newfound love of Unicorns...well that needed to be fixed, fast.
I set to work...3 Unicorn print PTP Adorabelles - done!
And with that...M is done...(Minus some in testing...)

Next I started to work on Miss S...my Minnie girl - she still has lots of dresses that now fit more as tunics but hey, it's good! She needed some new dress length and some new leggings - so far 1 Adorabelle made up for her!

And as requested by my Buddy, Lil D, Miles From Tomorrowland Charlie Tee - done! (another cut out) he also needs pants and shorts

J - he needs pants and shorts but since he starts 2 weeks later then his older siblings I'm waiting on his and working on ensuring the older ones are all set first!

Stepping Out...

We found out last May that our 8yr old daughter is Autistic...add this to her Sensory Processing Disorder and many things just suddenly make sense in how she acts and things she does...like chewing - man! that girl loves to chew, I found her some teether necklaces meant to be for mom to wear for a teething baby...she wears to have something to chew so stuff like rocks don't enter her mouth...
Another thing is her love of dance - when she's on the dance floor it's like she's in another world...a world where she can float and not need to worry about the fact that she can't read yet...so we support her in her dance, I've seen every dance show, I've driven her to and from dance camp, I've taken her to every dance practice...and even though she's never said thanks to me I get my "thanks mommy" when I see her dance...

Another way I choose to support her and allow her to know that no matter what I'll ensure her needs are met...even if that means I search for MONTHS for a pattern to remake a beloved pair of pants...
This pair of pants I made her last year, the pattern I used is no longer big enough for her though...so I attempted to hunt down a new pattern, I asked friends, I asked in sewing groups...ideas where shared, I checked those ideas of patterns out...nothing, months of checking various patterns and I was fast approaching another school year of her having only 2 pairs of pants she'd wear - both 7" too short...so I did what I could...

I took that pair of pants, 7" too short, made from who knows what mystery fabric...and I turned them into a pattern...I added length...I added width...
And then I made a pair out of Double Brushed Polyester...
I handed her that pair - and I explained that no matter what I needed her to remain calm and tell me where any adjusting was needed...and I'd try again, and again, and again...uantil we had the perfect pair...
she put that pair on - she ran down the hallway and back...she threw her arms around me and said "thank you mommy! they're prefect! can I have a purple flower pair?!"
"why yes M, you can have a purple flower pair!"
so now, not only do I have a pattern for her that she loves...I can make her pants in any print she so desires...
And she can have more then just 2 pairs...
and when needed I'll make the pattern bigger
she loves the prints that I had on my shelf lol
Miss S set this 1 up for pictures
M loves that she can have lots of pants! no need for Mommy to wash laundry nightly for 1 pair of pants...
and Butterflies! ;)

so yes, this week I stepped out of my comfort zone, and I took a pair of pants and made a pattern...a pattern that I know will be loved greatly here and be used for years to come with minor adjustments...the time it took was well worth it, no more fighting over pants not fitting right!

Not Just For the Kids

By now you're probably thinking "gee, this woman sews a LOT for her kids"
Why yes...I do, and I enjoy every second of it. But I don't just sew for them!
These are Leggings I made up for me use TWT Gazelle as the pattern

Random Sewing

Yes it seems I test a lot, really I don't...I just enjoy sewing!

When you have a girl who LOVES dance...you do what you can to support her...
here, that means making her some Unitards and Circle Skirts for dance practices!
I really enjoy watching her in her dance classes...not cuz of being able to see her in things I've made her but cuz I LOVE seeing how far she has come...

FS Charlie Tee for Lil D

and this one...this one was fun! I took my beloved FS Charlie Tee pattern and I hacked it...I used the very last scraps of my SK print and I made this shirt for my step-sister! she was thrilled!

Miss decided this year she wanted to be in ice skating - I let her join hesitantly - why? have you seen what those outfits are made of?! Polyester with a side of Polyester...and don't you forget that Polyester! Miss S is allergic to Polyester...but to ice skating she went...to the coach I went, I talked to them, I explained her allergy, I told them I was willing to do whatever needed to allow Miss S to enjoy her ice skating, rash free...they agreed! They showed me (before others) the show outfit, so I could see how it would fit Miss S - what parts needed to be covered to keep that Polyester off her skin...
and then I set to work - I found Nude colored tank tops - size 3x - 2 of them became her long sleeved nude colored leotard...
she needed to wear tan tights - tights are made from polyester...and the kinds that aren't are black or white - no tan...so I set to work there too - Abby's Tights to my rescue! Along with White Cotton Lycra and a bottle of Tan dye...now I had never dyed material before - what better time to start? so I jumped in head first, read the instructions and did it! It came out perfectly! then I cut that newly dyed material up and I made S her pair of tan tights...
Seeing her glide across the ice in her Princess outfit for her first ever show - a huge grin across her face...it made it all worth it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat...and I will this next march as she wants to continue in ice skating, and I'll be there with my sewing machine ready to keep that rash causing Polyester from touching her skin!

Christmas Time's Coming! (Ok...Gone in This Case...)

Yes, mostly I do sew for my kids...but I do also sew for other family...
Part of what I like to do is surprise people...well I pulled it off! With the amazing help of my 5yr old! ;)
See...my Daddy has always loved Stephen King books...he has owned most books SK wrote...he's seen the movies and enjoys those also...
so when It's Sew Creative posted about the SK preorder - no questions asked! I HAD to get some!
Merry Christmas to my Daddy! I surprised him with not only a shirt that fits him perfectly...but in the print of the books of his favorite author...he loved it to say the least...
and as an additional little surprise to my Buddy (5yr old) I used what little was left from Papa's shirt to make him one so he could "Match papa"
when we went to Papa's to deliver the present...my 5yr old told Papa that he couldn't take his coat off til Granma B came and Papa opened his present..this confused Papa but Papa went along with it, to humor Lil D...
Granma B arrived home and Lil D told Papa to open the present...Papa did...then Lil D asked Papa to help him undo his coat..."We match Papa!" when Papa seen the shirt he was wearing...made it a little extra special for sure...
This was Mom's Christmas Present...LLK Library Cardigan. Mom loves the pockets on these! Maybe I'll make her some for this year again ;)
This was for Father's Day...but still a gift so...I did the vinyl transfer with the help of a friend to create a very special Grandpa shirt for my Daddy! He LOVES it! And wears it with pride!

Summer Sleepovers and Tests

The latest test I did was again for Pickle Toe Patterns, the Summer Sleepover Dress.
This one, meant to tighter through the chest, is great for chilling around the house!
Miss S enjoyed relaxing with Minnie while we took our final photos.
The pattern comes with a dress length
and a tunic length
Shorts are also part of the pattern

During this test I also tested myself...those hems? They're a Lettuce Hem! I had never done this type of a hem before...now probably one of my favorite kinds!

And some wonder how I show off all these cute photos on FB without posting a ton...well here you go! Photo Collage!

Need something that's a quick sew for relaxing? Check it out here: PTP Summer Sleepover

Tying Tulips - A Woven Dress Test

Around here my 7yr old LOVES he some dresses, she also can't wear many store brought clothes due to her polyester allergy...so yes, I do sew quite a bit, she's a growing girl after all...
But I sew mostly with Cotton knits for her - as we never found a dress she loved made with Woven...
Until this tester call came out...I showed her the pictures posted and she said she NEEDED this dress in her life! So I signed up to test. I was picked!
The name of this dress was nothing even thought of when the test started...as the testing went on it became called the Tulip Tie Top and Dress...
My girl REALLY enjoyed "shopping" a new section of Mommy's material collection and picking out this Seersucker woven for me to make into her newest dress. Lined on the top part to create a nice finish...
And tied at the shoulders - She really loves this dress and has asked me to make her more from Minnie Mouse prints for school - that's still a WIP though ;)

Able to be purchased here: PTP Tulip Tie

Snail Hunting? Nope! Just a Test!

So...what happens when in the MIDDLE of making a pattern the designer gets sick? I'm not talking a cold or the flu...I'm talking hospitalizing type sick...
Well to answer the question: the pattern in testing gets put on hold. Sometimes for months...

That's what happened with this following test I did...it was started June 2016 and finally officially finished February 2017. In the beginning it was to be shorts, and only shorts...in the end it became shorts AND pants!

Lovingly named the "Snail Hunters" let me share with you how this next test evolved...

The test started out as a fairly straight forward test, we were testing fit and instruction wording really...side panel with pockets in to keep all those snails in (or cars around here)...
the options color wise were fun to play with that's for sure!

we even worked to prepare finals...(seen here with the PTP Pickled Pepper)

And then...the designer got sick. She put the test on hold to take time to get better...
Weeks passed...Months passed...
and she was better! Yeah!
But it was now cold for 60% of the testers as Summer had left us, Fall had come and gone, and Winter was here...
So instead of putting this pattern on hold longer, til the following Summer...she added a pants option...
We tested the length of the pants...
Until they were perfect!
And we prepared to take our finals...

and then we turned in the final photos...and the pattern finally released!
